TORSTR

TORSTR is a new residential building in the courtyard of a Berlin block, built on a previously empty site. The project fills the gap with a compact volume that completes the courtyard and gives it a new, green centre.

The courtyard facade is clad in dark brick and structured by a regular pattern of windows and balconies that open to the garden. Construction photographs document the process from the empty lot to the finished building, including the concrete stair core and the facade under scaffolding. Elevations, sections and plans reveal a careful attention to proportions and daylight in a dense urban context. The project shows how the inner courtyards of Berlin can be densified with quality, providing homes and a shared garden at the same time.
