atelier np - eduardo novo is a Berlin-based architecture practice working across housing, transformation and building within existing structures.
Founded by Eduardo Novo in 2016, the studio works from the first assessment of a site or building through design, approvals, technical development and construction.
We see architecture not as an isolated design exercise, but as a continuous process. Design decisions are developed together with construction, regulation, cost and the realities of building.
A significant part of our work deals with existing buildings and the question of how they can be intelligently continued.
Renovation, conversion, extension and additional storeys do not necessarily mean reinventing a building. They begin with identifying what is valuable, what can remain and where a precise intervention can create new possibilities.
The aim is architecture that feels self-evident — regardless of how complex the process behind it may have been.
We are interested in architecture that does not depend on a single image.
Proportion, material, light, construction and use are considered as parts of the same whole. Spaces should work not only when they are photographed or completed, but over time and through everyday use.
We therefore try to reduce projects to their essential decisions.
What does a building really need?
What can remain?
Where is change necessary?
And how can limited means produce greater spatial quality?
These questions accompany our work from the first sketch to the construction detail.
We work iteratively.
A project does not emerge in a single design step. Alternatives are developed, tested, rejected and refined. Plans, construction, materials and costs become progressively more precise until an initial idea becomes a buildable project.
Wherever possible, key specialist consultants are involved early in the process.
Particularly when working with existing buildings, structural design, fire safety, building services and energy requirements can have a fundamental impact on the architecture. The earlier these questions are understood, the greater the architectural freedom that remains.
This way of working continues onto the construction site, because many of the decisions that ultimately determine the quality of a building are found in the detail.
atelier np was founded in Berlin in 2016 by architect Eduardo Novo.
The practice works across different scales, from interiors and individual houses to multi-residential and complex existing-building projects.
An international background and experience across different European contexts continue to inform the way the studio works today.
From Berlin, atelier np - eduardo novo collaborates with a network of architects, engineers, specialist consultants, contractors and craftspeople. Teams are assembled according to the requirements of each commission.
This structure allows the studio to remain directly involved in the design and decision-making process while also delivering projects that require extensive technical coordination.
atelier np - eduardo novo works across all stages of architectural planning.
Depending on the project, we undertake individual planning stages or provide complete architectural planning and coordination through to construction.
Feasibility studies
Concept and design
Planning applications and approvals
Technical and detailed design
Tender documentation and procurement
Construction supervision and site management
Existing-building analysis
Renovation and modernisation
Conversion
Change of use
Rooftop development
Additional storeys
Extensions
Energy-related upgrades
For more complex projects, we coordinate the different specialist disciplines and bring them together within a consistent architectural framework.
Depending on the project, this may include structural engineering, fire safety, building services, building physics, energy consulting, surveying, geotechnical engineering, landscape architecture and other specialist planning.
For the client, this creates a clear planning structure with one central architectural point of contact.
Founder of atelier np
Eduardo Novo is a Spanish architect based in Berlin and founder of atelier np.
A graduate of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Sevilla (ETSAS), he has developed his professional career across Spain, the Netherlands, France, Germany and Switzerland, working within different architectural cultures and contributing to built and award-winning projects across Europe.
In Amsterdam, he collaborated with Moriko Kira Architect on several award-winning projects. In Switzerland, working with U15, he was project architect for a number of residential projects, including Villa Ceppi and Villa Keist, both recognised by the best architects awards. In Germany, he worked with SNARQ Architekten on the transformation and extension of the historic Textilmanufaktur in Halle, a project that received several distinctions, including the Hannes-Meyer-Preis.
Born and raised in a deeply rural environment in southern Spain, Eduardo developed an early sensitivity to landscape, materials and the relationship between buildings and their surroundings. This background continues to inform his work today, alongside the international perspective developed through more than fifteen years of architectural practice.
In 2016, he founded atelier np in Berlin. The studio works across residential architecture, transformations of existing buildings and complex urban interventions. Its approach begins with understanding what is already there: the place, its existing structures and histories, its constraints, and the people who inhabit it.
Eduardo sees design, materiality and construction as parts of the same architectural process. Conceptual clarity is balanced with the realities of building, with particular attention to proportion, light, materials and detail.
The studio’s work has been recognised through the selection of SCH41 and PHS36 for the Tag der Architektur Berlin, opening both projects to the public as part of the city’s annual programme dedicated to contemporary architecture.
Alongside his work at atelier np, Eduardo is involved in architectural education and teaches Detailing & Construction at the Berlin International University of Applied Sciences.
Project Leader · Design & Visualisation
Cun Hernandez is an Argentinian architect based in Berlin, working across architectural design, construction and three-dimensional exploration.
A graduate of the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata (UNMDP), his background combines architectural practice with teaching and research. Before moving to Europe, he taught architectural design at UNMDP, an experience that established a lasting interest in architecture as a process of exploration, discussion and continuous learning.
His professional trajectory spans Argentina, Denmark and Germany and brings together different scales and disciplines. Alongside his work in architectural design and construction, Cun developed a strong background in three-dimensional design and visualisation, including work as a 3D artist in Copenhagen. His experience has also included collaborations exploring the relationship between traditional Japanese construction principles, contemporary technologies and Western approaches to design.
His independent work and collaborations extend into architectural competitions and experimental projects, with a particular interest in sustainability, adaptable structures and the relationship between architecture and its environment. In 2022, together with Lucas Ibarra and Juliana Lareu, he received the AAPPAREL Sustainability Prize for the Caramel Shore Traveler Rooms international architecture competition.
At atelier np, Cun works as architect and project leader, contributing across the development of projects from early design and spatial studies to construction and implementation. His ability to move between conceptual design, three-dimensional thinking and the realities of building has become an important part of the studio’s collaborative approach.
His work is driven by an interest in how architecture is experienced and constructed: how material, structure, geometry and detail come together to create spaces that are both precise and open to everyday life.
