KORS20

KORS20 is a single-storey house set in a lush garden in a residential neighbourhood of pitched-roof houses. Instead of adopting their typology, the project proposes a long, horizontal volume in exposed concrete, which rests on the ground like a solid piece of landscape.

Large openings are cut precisely into the concrete mass and frame the garden from the living spaces, while deep reveals protect the interior from the summer sun. The robust material ages gracefully and requires little maintenance, and its texture is softened by the surrounding planting of grasses, perennials and stone paving. The house is designed as a calm, introverted retreat, where the relationship between inside and outside, mass and light, shapes everyday life.
