LAU

LAU is the conversion of an attic in which the existing brick walls and chimneys are exposed and become the main architectural elements. A corridor running under the roof is lit from above by skylights, and its brick surfaces are complemented by timber panelling and built-in cabinets.

The contrast between the rough, historic masonry and the precise new timber elements gives the space warmth and depth. The rooms open off the corridor with views towards the roofs of the city. The project demonstrates how the hidden structures of an old building can become the protagonists of a new interior.
